SALEM, WV - Senior Abel Hernandez (Salinas, California / North Salinas) from the Salem International University baseball team has been named the Male Student-Athlete of the Week for March 27 - April 2, 2017.
Hernandez spun a gem on the mound for the Tigers in a 3-2 victory against West Virginia Wesleyan College on Wednesday, March 29.
The Tigers split the twin bill with the bobcats as Hernandez tossed a complete-game (seven innings) en route to tallying his third win of the season.
He limited the Bobcats to two runs (one earned) on six hits, while fanning four batters and walking four.
Hernandez has started 10 games this season for SIU, making one relief appearance earlier this year. He is 3-6 on the season with two complete games and has fanned 55 batters in 56 innings of work.
