SALEM, WV - Freshman Morgan Atkinson (Bakersfield, California / Frontier High) from the Salem International University softball team has been named the Female Student-Athlete of the Week for March 27 - April 2, 2017.
Atkinson went 8-for-15 (.533) at the plate through five games for the Tigers. She recorded one home run, three runs batted in, and five runs scored. She also produced a .733 slugging percentage to go along with a .533 on base percentage.
She hit her first collegiate home run in the bottom of the fifth inning against Davis & Elkins College on March 29. The Tigers would go on to win the game 7-5.
Atkinson looked to lead a Tiger come-back on April 1 as the Tigers rallied to tie Cedarville 4-4 in the top of the sixth inning and 7-7 in the top of the seventh inning.
She finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with one run scored and one RBI as the Tigers dropped an 8-7 decision to the Yellow Jackets, who scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Atkinson has started in 30 games this season for SIU, batting .346 with two doubles, three triples, and 15 RBI's.
