SALEM, WV - Sophomore Albert Cartenuto (Miami, Florida / Braden River) from the Salem International University baseball team has been named the Male Student-Athlete of the Week for April 17-23, 2017.
Cartenuto tossed a complete-game shutout for the Tigers on Tuesday, April 18 as SIU split a doubleheader against West Virginia Wesleyan College. He earned his first-win of the season as he limited the Bobcats to three hits through seven innings of work in the 3-0 victory. Cartenuto also fanned a pair of batters in the 99-pitch performance.
He also went 2-for-6 at the plate with a run scored for the Tigers, who went 1-3 on the week.
The one-game set between the Tigers and Fairmont State Fighting Falcons is set to start at 5 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 25) with live stats being provided by Fairmont State. It will be the final road game of the 2017 season for the Tigers, who host their final-two series of the season against Glenville State on Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 26) at 3 & 5 p.m. and Saturday night (Apr. 29) against Bluefield State College.
