SALEM, WV - Sophomore Sam Perez (Boca Raton, Florida / Olympic Heights) from the Salem International University softball team has been named the Female Student-Athlete of the Week for February 13-20, 2017.
Perez finished the weekend 4-for-7 at the plate with four runs batted in for SIU, going 1-for-3 in the opening game against Shaw University. She would go 3-for-4 in the second game of the twin bill, delivering a pair of doubles.
Her RBI triple in the seventh inning of game one broke a 1-1 tie and propelled the Tigers to a 3-1 win against the Bears. In the second game, it would be her double in the third inning that plated two runs to give SIU a 7-0 lead and eventually count as the game-winning hit. The Tigers went on to defeat the Bears 11-6.
The Tigers have a pair of twin bills this weekend in North Carolina as SIU travels to Chowan University on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 25) and to Elizabeth City State University on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 26).
