SALEM, WV - Junior Alyssa Discepola (Rio Grande, New Jersey / Middle Township) from the Salem International University women's swimming team has been named the Female Student-Athlete of the Week for February 6-13, 2017.

Discepola and the Tigers recently completed their 2016-17 season at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina. Discepola recorded a personal-best time of 7:45.90 in the 500 yard freestyle while accomplishing a personal-best time of 2:46.45 in the 200 yard freestyle.

She also was apart of the Tigers' 200 yard freestyle relay team that dropped a total of 12 seconds off of their previous best time. SIU finished with a time of 1:56.22 in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

SIU finished the four-day event in 13th place and recorded numerous personal-bests after finishing its first season of competition after bringing back the program at the beginning of the school year.
