SALEM, WV - Senior Victor Blakey (Suitland, MD / Friendly) from the Salem International University men's basketball team has been named the Male Student-Athlete of the Week for January 23 through February 1, 2017.
On Wednesday evening (Jan. 25), Blakey nearly recorded a double-double with 12 points and nine assists on the road against Alderson Broaddus University. The SIU point guard went 2-of-4 from three-point range and 2-of-2 at the free-throw line.
At home against Chowan University on Wednesday night (Feb.1), he scored a team-high 18 points and added five assists. Behind the three-point line, Blakey was 3-of-5. He also went 3-of-6 at the charity stripe.
In the pair of games for SIU, he shot 55.5 percent from three-point range, 62.5 percent at the free-throw line, totaled 30 points, while handing out 14 assists.
Blakey is averaging 10.8 points, five assists, and 1.6 steals per contest this season.
