Heenan begins his fourth year as head coach and his fifth year as a member of the Salem University baseball coaching staff. After serving as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator in 2019-20, he was promoted to head coach during the summer of 2020. In 2023, Heenan’s Tigers proved to be a prominent force in the Atlantic Region while making a historic run in Tigers baseball’s first postseason opportunity since leaving the Great Midwest Athletic Conference in 2016. While winning the first conference championship in program history (NSAC), the Tigers also stamped their names in the record book with the most wins in program history (31), most series wins (7), the best 35 game stretch in program history (27-8), 5 players with All-NSAC postseason honors, 4 USCAA academic All-Americans, and Sam Schmitt earning USCAA All-American honors. Tiger’s offense also was among NCAA D2 leaders in stolen bases (129), and HBP (107). Heenan previously served as assistant director of operations for West Virginia University's baseball program. He was a graduate assistant coach when West Virginia earned a regional berth in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship for the first time in 21 years. He is a graduate of WVU and spent two years as a catcher for the Mountaineers. Heenan has also coached for a number of amateur baseball programs. He spent four seasons as head coach of the Appalachian Aces, a West Virginia travel team. He also served as head coach at the Prep Baseball Report Futures Game in 2018 and 2019. Off the field, Heenan served as an Advanced Scout and Director for Prep Baseball Report from 2017-19. Outside of baseball, he has been an elementary and high school special education teacher the past three years. Heenan earned both his undergraduate and master’s degree in elementary and special education from WVU. In addition to WVU sports teams, he is also a fan of Philadelphia teams: The Eagles, Flyers, Phillies and Sixers. JT is married to Allison and they reside in Morgantown
