Bob Burkhart earned a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education with a minor in Biology from Salem College in 1957. He played quarterback for the Salem Tigers from 1954-1957 and was named to the Second Team All-WVIAC squad in 1955. In the same year, Burkhart led the WVIAC in total offense.
After graduation, Burkhart joined the U.S. Army and was deployed to Fort Carson, Colorado, where he played football for the base in 1958.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Burkhart dedicated his life to coaching youth sports in Maryland. Burkhart was a successful offensive coordinator and golf coach for Bowle High School for 19 years. He finished with a golf record of 208 wins and 36 losses, with eleven county tittles, two metropolitan tittles and one state tittle.
Burkhart was also a successful baseball and wrestling coach. He was inducted into the Maryland State Wrestling Hall of Fame. He has remained active in the Maryland State Wrestling Hall of Fame. He has remained active in the Maryland State Wrestling Basketball Tournaments.
After retirement as the Vice Principal of High Point High School in Beitsville, Maryland in 1991, he remained active in community athletics. He established the Maryland Interclub Senior Golf Association and has been active in the Senior Olympics of Maryland.
Burkhart’s passion for athletics and love for coaching is rooted in his days at Salem College. He is married to Paula Hines from Las Cruces New Mexico, whom he has celebrated over 50 years of marriage.
