A 1964 graduate of Salem College, Carl Hilling participated on the football team during the 1962 and 1963 campaigns. As an offensive end and defensive tackle, Hilling was a two year starter and earned 1963 all-conference honors.
While a student at Salem, Hilling participated in various school activities such as the Key Club, Student Government, Yanks and also took part in the school newspaper and yearbook staff. Prior to graduating with a degree in Health and Physical Education, Hilling was named to Who’s Who Among Students in Colleges and Universities during the 1963-1964 academic year.
Upon his graduation from Salem College, Hilling earned his Master’s degree in 1970 from the University of Akron and has since worked in public education as a school superintendent in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana. His work has garnered numerous awards and honors, including receiving Cleveland’s Lawyer’s 37th Annual Liberty Bell Award Bell Award and the 20th Annual Community Award from the City of Parma.
Hilling has also presented his work in over 20 publications and lectures throughout his career. Hilling has sat on the planning committee to establish Ph.D programs at Walsh University and the University of Akron. He has been part of many superintendent associations, including the Ohio State University’s Academy for Superintendents and the Greater Cleveland School Superintendents Association,
