Charlotte Powell, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, graduated from Salem-Teikyo in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in Youth and Human Services Management and is the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,431 career points.
She was selected as the 1995 and 1996 WVIAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year. She led the league in scoring during both seasons of her career at Salem. Powell led the WVIAC in scoring in 1995 (24.2 ppg) and 1996 (23.5 ppg.), field goal percentage in 1995 (55.7 percent), and three-point field goal percentage (39.2 percent) in 1996. She also ranked among the WVIAC’s top 10 in rebounding and assists during each season.
During her time at Salem, she led the Tigers to a pair of league regular season and conference tournament titles, including a 35-3 WVIAC record. Powell was a two-time WVIAC Tournament MVP when Salem claimed back-to-back championships, and in 1995, she was named a NAIA Second Team All-American.
Powell was honored in 2007 by being selected as a member of the WVIAC’s “25 at 25” Team. The squad honored the 25 greatest women’s athletes, along with five top coaches, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of women's athletics in the WVIAC.
Powell went on to play professional basketball for the Cleveland Crush of the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL).
