Born April 1, 1920, Clement H. Clower served Salem College as a coach, athletic director and administrator.
 
A 1945 graduate of Salem College, he became an assistant football and basketball coach in 1955, head football coach in 1956, head basketball coach in 1956 and head baseball coach in 1957. He was appointed athletic director in 1956 and later served as acting athletic director in 1981.
 
Clower led Salem to baseball championships in 1962, 1966 and 1971 and was named the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Coach of the Year in 1966 and 1971. He was named Area VII NAIA Coach of the Year in 1962.
 
Several of his players became coaches and one became the president of a college in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Eleven of his players signed and played professional baseball.
 
Clower was selected by the West Virginia Sportswriter Association as one of 30 coaches to the All-Time Coaches squad in 1974. He served as chairman of NAIA District 28’s executive committee and held the longest tenure of any district chairman in the organization.
 
He was the secretary-treasurer of NAIA District 28, secretary of the West Virginia Educational television council, and chairman of the Salem College Faculty Club.
 
Clower also served as chairperson of the Salem College Physical Education Department from 1956-65 and was the director and dean of the Clarksburg campus from 1965-81.
