The 1969 Salem Football team, led by Head Coach Don Young and assistants Ed Pastilong, Ora Ford, and Alan Hoover was one of the most prolific teams in school history.
The Tigers finished with an 8-1 record, averaging 28.3 points per game, and outscoring opponents by a total of 255-56. Salem College ranked fifth in total defense and was ninth against the rush. The defense shutout four of its nine opponents, limiting opponents to just 6.2 points per game.
Six players earned all WVIAC-All conference honors. Tailback Cornell Smith, Defensive Tackle NAIA Honorable Mention All American Joe Schumacher, Defensive End Mel Washington, Middle Guard Gary Snyder, and Offensive Tackle Barry Strong were awarded first team all conference. Offensive Tackle Steve Kritz earned Honorable Mention. Young was named WVIAC Coach of the Year.
