Salem, W.Va -
Rachel Hess (Germany) had a game-high 20 kills and
Janae Harris (Mansfield, Ohio) had the game-winning block as the Salem International University women's volleyball team rallied to defeat West Viriginia State in five sets (11-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-18, 15-13) in their final match of the 2014 campaign.
The Tigers, who hadn't tasted victory since October 20th at Bluefield State, finish the season on a high note to pull their record to 5-22 (1-11 G-MAC).
"We've really been down the last three weeks", said first year coach
Chris Weber. "We got excited to play volleyball again and it showed on the court."
Falling in the first set, 25-11, the momentum seemed to be solely in the favor of the visiting West Virginia State (7-21, 5-11 MEC). However, the Tigers rallied to win the second game (25-21) and that got the crowd into the match.
"Our fans were just spectacular...the loudest fans we've had all year." said Weber. "They really helped us and pushed us to the win."
