Men's soccer blanked at WVU Tech, 4-0

BECKLEY, W.Va. (Oct. 24) - The Tigers could not overcome a two-goal halftime deficit and were defeated by WVU Tech 4-0 Saturday evening in non-conference action.

The Salem International University men's soccer team falls to 8-6-1 overall. Meanwhile, the Golden Bears improve to 14-1 overall after entering the match ranked No. 24 in the latest NAIA National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) rankings.

WVU Tech netted a goal in the sixth minute of the match and added insurance with a successful penalty kick right before the halftime break to take a 2-0 lead. The Golden Bears added goals in the 68th and 84th minutes to solidify their position and earn a 4-0 win.

Salem International was out-shot 10 to seven for the match, with the Golden Bears finishing with a five to four edge in shots on goal. Each team attempted three corner kicks in the match.

The Tigers conclude their 2015 regular season slate with a road trip to Vienna, West Virginia on Tuesday, Oct. 27 to Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) foe Ohio Valley. The game will give the upcoming G-MAC Tournament some clarity, as the winner will be awarded at least the No. 3 seed, with the loser claiming the No. 4 seed. The winner could potential rise to the No. 2 seed in the postseason tournament, pending a loss by Alderson Broaddus at Davis & Elkins on Tuesday. The opening kick for the match at Ohio Valley is set for 3:30 p.m.
