SALEM, W.Va. (Oct. 24) – Despite a strong second set effort, the Tigers were knocked off 3-1 (25-8, 22-25, 25-21, 25-16) by Ursuline in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match Saturday afternoon at the T.Edward Davis Gymnasium.
The loss drops the Tigers to 5-15 overall, 0-3 in the G-MAC. Meanwhile, the Arrows improve to 3-4 in the conference, 7-18 overall this season.
Sophomore
Felice Reed (Pilot Point, Texas/Pilot Point) tallied her third double-double of the season with 12 assists and 10 digs in the loss, while sophomore
Rachel Hess (Stuttgart, Germany/Patch) led the team with 14 kills and a .286 hitting percentage. The defensive efforts were led by sophomore Jen Foreman (Delaware, Ohio/Rutherford B. Hayes), who finished with season-high 18 digs in the match.
Ursuline cruised to its first set win behind a .476 hitting percentage, but the Tigers responded with a thrilling 25-22 win in the second set to even the score. Salem International gave the Arrow hitters fits, limiting Ursuline to a negative-.026 hitting percentage in the set. However, the Arrows recovered to win the final two sets of the match and take the victory.
The Tigers are on the road for their next three matches, beginning with a non-conference visit to Bluefield State on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m.
