ERIE, Pa. (Dec. 20) – The Tigers finished up 2015 with an 86-54 loss at Mercyhurst Sunday in non-conference play.
The loss sends the Salem International University men's basketball team to 3-9 overall, while the Lakers improve to 8-4 this season.
Junior
Conrad Etchi (Burtonsville, Md./James H. Blake) led the team with 17 points and seven rebounds, sophomore
Saquan Epps (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass) added 12 and seven boards and both senior
Tyler Bell (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) and
Victor Blakey (Suitland, Md./Friendly) chipped in 11 points apiece.
Despite shooting nearly 50 percent from the field (21 of 44), including 7 of 15 (47 percent) from three-point range, the Tigers struggled to keep up with Mercyhurst. Salem International committed 32 turnovers, compared to 11 committed by the Lakers in the loss.
The Lakers were led by Sean Beins, who tallied 17 points to lead Mercyhurst to the victory.
The Tigers will have two weeks off before their next game on Jan. 4 when they host Ohio Valley in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference opener around 7:30 p.m.
