VIENNA, W.Va. (Feb. 14) – The Salem International University men's basketball team lost at Ohio Valley, 85-60, Saturday afternoon in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) action.
The loss drops the Tigers to 3-16 overall, 1-9 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Scots improve to 5-5 in G-MAC action and 8-12 overall.
Senior guard
Matt Thomas (Harlem, N.Y.) led Salem International in the loss with 14 points. Classmate
Tyler Bell (Kalamazoo, Mich.) paced Thomas with 13 points and seven rebounds (three offensive), while senior
Abel Tillman led the team with eight boards.
Ohio Valley led by as many as 19 points in the first half, before the Tigers trimmed the deficit to 14, 42-28, heading into halftime. Salem International scored the half's final five points, including a three-pointer by Thomas with under five seconds remaining.
The Scots reestablished command by out-scoring the visitors 21-10 over the first 10 minutes of the second half. Ohio Valley did not allow Salem International to come within 20 points in the final 10 minutes of the game to secure the win.
The Scots were led by Darryl Walker, who registered a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
The Tigers return to action Wednesday, Feb. 19 when they take on Cedarville in a G-MAC contest. The opening tip is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
