No. 25 Cedarville knocks off Salem International, 71-49

CEDARVILLE, Ohio (Feb 19) -- The Salem International University women's basketball team was defeated 71-49 by No. 25 Cedarville Thursday night in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) action at the Callan Athletic Center.

The loss drops the Tigers to 0-25 overall, 0-13 in the G-MAC. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets, ranked No. 25 in the most recent USA Today Women's Division II poll, improves to 13-1 in conference play and 23-3 overall.
 
Senior Shakinah Haggins (Lakeland, Fla.) led Salem International and all scorers with a game-high 18 points. Senior Samantha Aikens (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) tallied 14, while classmate Amanda Jackson (Dayton, Ohio) chipped in 10 points in the loss.  
 
Cedarville leaped out to a 13-2 lead through the first four minutes. The Tigers responded with a 7-1 run to trim the deficit to 14-9 with 11:54 remaining in the first half.
 
The Yellow Jackets rebuilt their lead with a 12-unanswered points to take a 26-9 lead with 6:46 left in the first half. Each team tallied eight points down the stretch to send Cedarville into the half with a 34-17 lead.
 
Jackson drained a jump shot with 16:32 remaining in the game to trim the Yellow Jacket lead to 13, 38-25, but a 15-2 run by the hosts over the next five minutes put the game out of reach.

Cedarville was led by Raegan Ryan and Abby Wolford, who each totaled 13 points for the Yellow Jackets.
 
The Tigers are back in action Saturday, Feb. 21, when they head to Wilberforce, Ohio to take on Central State. The opening-tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
