NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb.28) – The Salem International University women's basketball team concluded its season with a 91-47 loss at Trevecca Nazarene University Saturday afternoon at the Trojan Fieldhouse.
The loss ends the Tigers season at 0-28 overall and 0-15 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). Meanwhile, the Trojans improve to 14-2 in conference play, 17-9 overall.
Senior
Shakinah Haggins (Lakeland, Fla.) led all scorers with a game-high 19 points and added six rebounds to lead Salem International. Seniors
Samantha Aikens (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and
Amanda Jackson (Dayton, Ohio) chipped in nine and eight points, respectively, and each finished with six boards. Jackson added a team-best five assists to her final line.
Trevecca scored the game's first 12 points before Aikens got the Tigers on the board with a three-pointer with 15:20 left until halftime. The three also kicked-off a 9-3 run that brought Salem International within six points, 15-9, with 14 minutes to play in the first half.
The Trojans pulled away over the next 10 minutes, building their lead to 26 points, before Haggins ended the run with a three-pointer to make the score 40-17 with 3:21 remaining in the opening half. Both teams traded baskets in the final three minutes, sending Trevecca into the locker rooms with a 44-21 lead.
The Tigers were stifled on offense coming out of the locker rooms. The Trojans limited Salem International to two field goals over the first 10 minutes of the second half and trailed 65-31 with 10:15 remaining in the game.
Despite trading baskets with the Trojans over the next five minutes, the Tigers could not make a dent into the Trevecca lead, sending Salem International to the loss.
Paige Baugher led four players in double-figures for Trevecca with 18 points.
