Salem, WV – The Men's Salem International University hosted Malone University in the Tiger's first official home game. The Tigers fought hard in this thrilling double overtime match, but could only come out with a 1-1 draw, the first one of the season. The game was played in damp conditions as it had rained for the three days prior to the confrontation.
The Tigers internationally diverse starting line-up (feel free to check the roster makeup on the website…) for this home contest was

Leonardo Souza De Meo in the defense; in the midfield was

The Tigers came out strong this game outshooting the opponent 23 shots to 5. Yet the Tigers went down 1-0 in the 63 minute. Although they were trailing, our boys managed to remain in control even though they could not find the back of the net. The Salem Tigers rallied together when a perfect switch from right to the left side by Sophomore
James Cockshott (Godmanchester, England / Hinchingbrooke) found teammate
Jacob Kemlock (Oak Hill, W.Va. / Oak Hill). Jacob then put in a brilliant cross to senior teammate
Jan Deters (Hamburg, Germany / Gymnasium Fridericianum) who set the ball on a silver platter for teammate
Ricardo Reyes (Pachuca, Mexico / Universidad del Futbol) who all he had to do was tap the ball into the net from 2 yards out to give the Tigers the draw on the 89
th minute of play and force overtime. The Tigers fought till the final whistle and even had their chances in overtime, but were unable to put away the opposition.
The match ended 1-1 to give the tigers their first draw of the season thanks to a last minute goal from Senior
Ricardo Reyes. The Tigers record is now (3-4-1) and Malone is now at (1-7-2).
Your Salem International Tigers return to action in their second home game of the season on Thursday, October 6, where they host West Virginia Tech in the Tigers Homecoming Match at 4:00 p.m. in Salem, West Virginia.
