SALEM, WV - Salem International University completed its 2016 campaign by dropping a 6-0 decision to Alderson Broaddus University on Thursday afternoon (Oct. 27) in women's collegiate soccer action. The Tigers honored seniors
Jesse Browne (Bomont, West Virginia) and
Natalia Rodriguez (Miami, Florida) during half-time of the match.
The Battlers would score the first goal of the match in the third minute of play as Deven Jones scored off of her own corner kick. Things would even out over the next 13 minutes as both teams traded possession of the ball.
Alderson Broaddus would up its lead to 2-0 in the 17th minute as Brittany Minor scored the first of her three goals on the afternoon after stealing the ball away from the Tigers defense and shooting from the top of the box.
The Tigers would have their best scoring opportunity of the first half when sophomore
Kara Kocurek took a shot in the 25th minute of action. Kocurek's attempt would be blocked by the Battlers defense and quickly turned away.
Salem International junior goalkeeper
Amanda Allred would face a total of 15 shots in the first half of action, while making six saves in net for the Tigers.
The Battlers wouldn't wait long to stretch their lead to 3-0 as Minor worked her way past the Tigers defense and beat Allred one-on-one in the 53rd minute of play. Minor would complete her hat-trick in the 55th minute after being awarded a penalty shot and converting. The Battlers would tally two more goals in the final 20 minutes of action to round-out the scoring and make it 6-0.
Kocurek took her second shot of the game in the 74th minute as it would be saved by Alderson Broaddus goalie Diyonus Walls. Freshman midfielder
Jenna Hill would also add a shot on goal for Salem International in the final 10 minutes of action.
Allred finished with 10 saves in the match for the Tigers after facing a total of 30 shots from the Battlers. Walls would finish with two saves in net for Alderson Broaddus.
The Battlers took a total of 13 corner kicks in the contest and were flagged for one offsides call. Alderson Broaddus converted on both of its penalty kick opportunities in the 55th and 64th minute.
