Adelphi uses the three-ball to fly past the Tigers 104-64

SALEM, WV The Salem International University men's basketball team was unable to overcome a hot-shooting Adelphi squad as the Tigers fell to Adelphi University 104-64 on Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 29) in NCAA men's basketball action. Junior Saquan Epps finished the contest with a team-high 14 points by going 5-of-11 from the floor and 3-of-5 from charity stripe.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  •  First Half
    • Epps scored six points on 2-of-7 shooting for the Tigers and went 2-of-3 at the charity stripe.
    • Michael Coffey scored 25 points for Adelphi and went 8-of-13 from the floor and 7-of-10 from three-point range.
    • Salem Int'l was 11-of-34 from the floor and 2-of-10 from downtown, while the Panthers were 21-of-32 from the floor and 11-of-18 from three-point range.
    • The Panthers held an 22-14 advantage in rebounds and tallied 12 assists, with Coffey dishing-out a team-high four.
    • Chris Millender added 14 points for Adelphi on 6-of-6 shooting.
    • Junior Jordan Robinson and freshman Josh Carpenter each scored five points for SIU. Carpenter pulled-down a team-high four boards in the first half.
    • Adelphi led 60-27 at the end of the opening stanza.
  •  Second Half
    • Senior Victor Blakey would score 11 of his 13 points in second half, going 5-for-10 from the floor.
    • Epps added another eight points to his total in the second half, while Carpenter scored six points for the Tigers.
    • Coffey continued to pace the Adelphi offense in the second half, adding 13 more points to up his total to a game-high 38 points.
    • The Panthers cooled down in the second stanza, going 13-of-31 from the floor and just 2-of-11 from three-point territory, while the Tigers were 12-of-37 from the floor and 2-of-12 from three-point land.
    • SIU went 11-of-16 at the free throw line in the half and Adelphi went 16-of-18.
    • The Panthers out-scored SIU 44-37 in the second half.

 STATS FROM THE GAME:

  • Blakey finished with a team-high four assists, while Epps and freshman Jarius Farrow each recorded a block for Salem.
  • Adelphi out-scored the Tigers 45-28 inside of the paint and tallied 11 points off of SIU turnovers.
  • Austin Beech scored nine of his 13 points at the charity stripe, finishing 9-of-12. Manny Suarez recorded a game-high nine rebounds and just missed scoring in double digits with nine points.
  • Millender would finish the contest with 22 points, while teammate Jack Laffey tallied 14 points for the Panthers.
  • Adelphi out-rebounded the Tigers 44 to 27 with 38 of the Panthers' boards coming on the defensive end of the court.
