SALEM, WV - The Salem International Tigers closed-out their 2016 home schedule on Tuesday night (Nov. 8) at the T. Edward Davis Gymnasium against Bluefield State College. The Blues were victorious in the match 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-20).
The Tigers (5-25) wrap-up the 2016 campaign on the road against West Virginia Wesleyan. The match is set for 7 pm in Buckhannon, West Virginia.
Salem International was led by 12 kills from junior
Alessandra Marquez and 10 kills from sophomore
Sophie Freihofer.
Bluefield State hit .440 as a team in the opening set, while the Tigers hit just .154 as a team. The Blues did almost everything right, committing just one error with 12 kills. The Tigers finished the set with 13 kills, but seven errors as a team would contribute to the Blues winning the first set 25-19.
The lead would change hands just one time in the second set as Bluefield State controlled the tempo for a majority of the time. Salem would commit 10 errors in the set compared to nine kills. The score would be tied on five seperate occassions.
The Tigers looked to change the pace of the match and extend things to a fourth set. Salem recorded four of the first five points in the set to take a 4-1 lead. The Blues, however, would quickly respond with a run of their own. The run would give the Blues a short lead in the set as both teams would see the score tied six times and the lead change hands six times.
Sophomore
Tallora Soriano guided the Tigers offense with 24 assists on the night, while freshman
Justine Ramirez delivered a team-high seven digs. Freihofer served-up three service aces and freshman
Kristn Holt tallied one solo block and two assisted blocks.
The Blues were led by 13 kills and 11 digs from Jessie Rehwald. Tyann Thomas finished with nine kills and three service aces for the Blues, while teammate LeAndrea Armbrister totaled 25 assists. Brittney Deveaux recorded eight kills and led Bluefield State with one solo block and three assisted blocks.
