SALEM, W.Va. (Feb. 25) – A big fourth quarter propelled Trevecca past the Tigers, 70-56, in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play Tuesday night.
The Salem International University women's basketball team falls to 4-23 overall, 1-12 in the G-MAC. Meanwhile, the Trojans improve to 7-6 in league play, 8-15 overall this season.
Senior
Dorina Barrett (Detriot, Mich./Pershing) led three Tigers in double-figures with 16 points and four assists. Senior
Samantha Aiken (Hilton Head Island, S.C./Hilton Head) and redshirt-freshman
Keishla Gilmore (Philadelphia, Pa./Mariana Bracetti) each chipped in 12 points, while Aiken added a team-high five steals.
Salem International trailed 41-33 at halftime and outscored Trevecca 16-11 in the third quarter to pull within three points, 52-49. The Tigers scored seven-unanswered points to close out the third, capped off by a three pointer from freshman
Jiahna Flood-Francis (Pittsburgh, Pa./West Mifflin) to put pressure on the Trojans.
The fourth quarter was not as kind to Salem International. The Tigers shot just 2-of-16 (13 percent) from the field and missed all six of their attempts from long distance, allowing the Trojans to escape with the win.
Trevecca held a 44-to-18 advantage in points in the paint, fueled mostly by leading scorer Sarah Raby, who finished with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds.
The Tigers wrap up the 2015-16 season this Saturday afternoon when they host Kentucky Wesleyan on senior day for a tip at 2 p.m.
