SALEM, W.Va. (Feb. 27) - The Tigers wrapped up the 2015-16 season with a 103-80 loss to No. 10 Kentucky Wesleyan on Senior Day in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play Saturday evening.
The loss ends the Salem International University men's basketball season at 4-22 overall, 1-11 in the G-MAC. Meanwhile, the Panthers, ranked No. 10 in the latest NCBWA Division II Poll, conclude the regular season at 11-1 in league play, 25-3 overall.
Senior
Tyler Bell (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) concluded his collegiate career with a team-high 17 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore
Gerard Tarin (Fort Myers, Fla./East Lee County) registered his seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Junior
Lamonte Fields (Dinwiddie, Va./Dinwiddie) added 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting, sophomore
Saquan Epps (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass) chipped in 13 points and five boards, while senior
Jerry Sipple, III (Kansas City, Mo./Wyandotte) finished with six points and a team-high eight assists in the loss.
Kentucky Wesleyan led 23-19 with 11:22 remaining in the first half before the Tigers had their best run of the game. Senior
Parris Purcelle (Greenburgh, N.Y./Irvington) brought the crowd to its feet with a thunderous alley-oop dunk from Sipple and followed it by knocking down a trey to give Salem International a 26-23 lead. Fields hit a slashing layup and drained a jumper to cap off an 11-1 run to give the Tigers a 30-24 lead and force a Kentucky Wesleyan timeout with 8:46 left in the first half.
The Panthers came out of the timeout with eight-straight points to reclaim the lead. Kentucky Wesleyan outscored Salem International 29-10 in the final eight minutes of the half to take a 53-40 lead into the locker rooms.
Kentucky Wesleyan assumed command of the game out of the break with a 19-4 run to push its lead to 72-44 with 15:25 remaining in the contest. The Tigers made one last effort with a 15-4 spurt over the next five minutes to pull within 17 points, 76-59, with just under 11 minutes left to play, but the Panthers did not allow Salem International to get any closer.
Salem International was out-rebounded 51-34, while the Panthers held a 56-31 advantage in points in the paint.
Ken-Jah Bosley led five players in double-figures with 22 points, while Jordan Jacks recorded a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Panthers to the win.

At halftime, the
2016 Salem International University Athletic Hall of Fame inductees Lamont Watkins and Ora Ford were recognized. In addition, Salem International student-athletes Elliot Cook (men's soccer) and Alyssa Discepola (softball/women's soccer/bowling) were awarded with the Jack Deloplaine Leadership Awards, while the Archie Talley Motivational Awards were presented to
Gerard Tarin (men's basketball) and Emerald Rosenbusch (volleyball/women's tennis).
