Salem takes one of four from Cedarville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 NUTTER FORT, W.Va. (April 16) – The Tigers claimed one of four games against Cedarville with a 7-1 win on Friday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets won the other three games by scores of 13-2, 11-3 and 11-0.
 
The Salem International University baseball team moves to 6-29 overall, 2-12 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play this season. Meanwhile, Cedarville improves to 3-7 in league play, 9-20 overall.
 
Senior pitcher Zack Skipper (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran) was effective in the team's 7-1 win in game two on Friday. The southpaw scattered seven hits, allowed one run and struck out two to improve to 3-5 this season on the mound.
 
Salem International gave Skipper a six run cushion in the sixth inning to help him earn the win. Freshman second baseman Logan Steinle (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) led the Tigers at the plate with two hits, two RBI and a run scored. Junior left fielder Matthew Flores (King City, Calif./King City) added two hits and a RBI, while junior third baseman Trent Dalton (Logan, W.Va./Logan) posted a similar line with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored.
 
Senior first baseman Anthony Bariso (Tarpon Springs, Fla./Tarpon Springs) and junior Donato Gallano (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell) each had RBI doubles to help the team to the win.
 
Salem International was defeated 13-2 to open play on Friday afternoon.
 
Several Tigers connected for base hits, while senior left fielder Joe Drago (Albany, Ind./Delta) added the team's only RBI.
 
Salem International was swept in its doubleheader against Cedarville by scores of 11-3 and 11-0 on Saturday.
 
Steinle and junior right fielder Tanner Helms (Lake Charles, La./Sam Houston) each tallied two hits in the game one 11-3 loss, while Flores finished with two RBI.
 
Salem International returns to the diamond for a non-conference game at Charleston (West Virginia) on Tuesday, April 19 at 3 p.m.
