ELKINS, W.Va. (April 2) – The Tigers were dealt four losses by Davis & Elkins in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play Friday and Saturday afternoons.
The Salem International University softball team falls to 13-15 overall, 4-10 in the G-MAC. Meanwhile, the Senators improve to 8-5 in league play, 23-12 this season.
GAME 1: Davis & Elkins 14, Salem International 0 (Final/5 innings)The Senators touched the Tigers for 14 runs in the first two innings to race out to a run-rule shortened win in the first game Friday afternoon.
The Tigers were limited to just one hit in the contest and drew three walks.
Game 2: Davis & Elkins 6, Salem International 0Salem International committed four errors in its 6-0 loss to close out play Friday afternoon.
The Senators took advantage of the mistakes and tallied unearned runs in the first, third and fourth innings to pick up the win.
Senior
Katie Chryssofos (Chapmanville, W.Va./Logan) led the Tigers at the plate with two of the team's three hits.
Sophomore pitcher
Kayla Lynch (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) was saddled with the loss. She allowed six runs (zero earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts.
GAME 3: Davis & Elkins 10, Salem International 2 (Final/5 innings)Despite a two-run home run in the first inning by Chryssofos, the Senators rallied for 10 runs in the final three innings to earn a run-rule shortened win in game one on Saturday.
Lynch (9-6) took the loss in the game after yielding 10 runs (six earned) on 11 hits.
GAME 4: Davis & Elkins 6, Salem International 1The Senators completed the four-game sweep with a 6-1 win in game two on Saturday afternoon.
Davis & Elkins scored six-straight runs to open the game, before a Chryssofos RBI-single in the sixth inning put the Tigers on the board. Chryssofos led the team with two hits in the loss.
Sophomore pitcher
Katie Holestin (Covington, Va./Allegheny) fell to 4-9 this season after allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits with two strikeouts.
Salem International will look to bounce back on Monday, April 4 when they host Bluefield State at Hope Field in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
