Jiahna Flood-Francis scored the opening 10 points of the contest for Salem International University on Wednesday night (Jan. 25) but a huge second quarter from Alderson Broaddus set the tone in a 68-41 victory for the Battlers. Flood-Francis scored a team-high 20 points for SIU, while Tatiana Nikitina scored a game-high 23 points for Alderson Broaddus.
The Tigers remain on the road as they travel to Old Westbury, New York on Monday, January 30 to face the Bears of New York Institute of Technology. Tip-off between the Tigers and Bears is set for 5 p.m. Links for live stats and video can be found at www.siutigerpride.com.
Flood-Francis would keep the Tigers in the contest early on, giving SIU a pair of leads within the first six minutes of the contest. The Battlers gained a late lead in the first quarter, leading 13-8. The huge run for Alderson Broaddus came in the second quarter, with Nikitina and Jordan Parker each recording 10 points for the Battlers.
Both teams combined to commit 24 turnovers in the first-half, with SIU turning the ball over 14 times. The Battlers would make the Tigers pay for their miscues, scoring 16 points. The 19-4 second quarter gave the Battlers a 32-12 lead heading into the break. SIU scored all of their paints in the paint and Alderson Broaddus took a different approach, going 4-of-12 from downtown and 6-of-6 at the free-throw line.
The second-half continued in favor of the Battlers as their lead ballooned to 37 points (66-29) after a pair of made free throws from Nikitina. SIU closed the contest on a 12-2 run, with Flood-Francis scoring nine of those points. Both teams turned the ball over 10 times in the second-half, with the Tigers scoring nine points.

Franchessca Gill finished the contest with seven points for SIU, while junior Christy Hernandez and sophomore
Quamilla Jackson each recorded a team-high six rebounds for the Tigers.
Parker finished with 17 points for the Battlers, while teammate Korie Maryo recorded 10 rebounds and five points. Lorin Clark dished out a game-high five assists while adding seven points and two steals for Alderson Broaddus.
SIU shot 31.4 percent (16-of-51) from the floor, 2-of-12 from downtown, and 7-of-18 from the free-throw line. Alderson Broaddus shot 47.1 percent from the floor (24-of-51), 7-of-21 from downtown, and 13-of-14 from the free-throw line. The Battlers held a 39-32 advantage in rebounds, while the Tigers out-scored Alderson Broaddus 26-22 in the paint. The game featured 44 turnovers, 17 steals, four ties, and two lead changes.
