BECKLEY, W. Va. (Oct. 23, 2017) — The Salem University Tigers men's soccer team clinched a winning record with a 2-0 victory over the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears on Monday night. 

With the win, the Tigers improve to 8-6-2 with one more regular season match remaining and are eligible for consideration in the Eastern College Athletic Conference postseason tournament.

Sjoerd Schobbers scored the first goal of the match 12 minutes in, recording his seventh of the season. Almost 15 minutes later, Federico Toschi extended the Tigers' lead to 2-0, sending his 10th goal of the season into the back of the net. 

Salem was the aggressor in the first half, taking a 7-4 advantage into the break. For the match, the Tigers finished with eight shots to West Virginia Tech's nine, but were more accurate with their attempts, taking a 4-2 edge in shots on goal. 

Schobbers and Toschi accounted for all four shots on goal. 

Goalie Wiktor Stawski had one save, with the team defending the other shot on goal to preserve the freshman's first career shutout in what was an overall team defensive effort, limiting the Golden Bears to just two corner kicks. 

Salem University will close out its regular season on the road against the National Christian College Athletic Association's Oakland City University on Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. Oakland City University is 5-6-1. Both schools played Marian University with Oakland City taking a 1-0 loss and the Tigers losing 3-0 on Sept. 23.
