Women's basketball loses to Seton Hill University

Tigers drop fifth straight.

Box Score
SALEM, W. Va. (Dec. 18, 2017) – A reeling Salem University Tigers women's basketball team dropped its fifth consecutive game, losing 94-41 to the Seton Hill University Griffins on the final day of the Salem University Holiday Invitational.

Seton Hill blitzed Salem with a barrage of 3-pointers, shooting 15-for-40 (37.5 percent) for the game. The Griffins spread the Tigers' defense out, collapsing the zone with dribble penetration and entry passes before kicking the ball out to open shooters—assisting on 21 of their 36 made field goals.

The 3-point shooting loosened driving lanes as the game wore on, with Seton Hill scoring 22 of its 36 points in the paint, while Salem managed just 24 points in the restricted area.
Absent key players, the Tigers struggled offensively with only Keishla Gilmore scoring in double figures with 19 points on 8-for-15 shooting and four rebounds. Salem was wildly inefficient, shooting just 25 percent from the field, including 18.8 percent from the 3-point line.

Cheyenne Trest led four Seton Hill players in double figures with 18 points, hitting six 3-pointers, to go with four assists. Halie Torris scored 17 points off the bench, leading a second unit that outscored its counterparts 39-6.
Salem was within two points near the end of the first quarter, but the Tigers attacked early with an opportunity to hold for the last shot, leading to a fast break layup, then a steal on the ensuing inbounds pass for another jumper to beat the clock for a 19-13 lead.

The Tigers wore out in the second quarter and, with exhaustion setting in, managed just 13 points in the second half.

With the loss, the Tigers drop to 3-10 on the season. Salem will return to action on Dec. 30, hosting West Liberty University (4-7) in the T. Edward Davis Gymnasium at 6 p.m.
