DUE WEST, SC – The Erskine College Flying Fleet were able to sweep the Salem International University Tigers in a pair of games on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 11) at Grier Field. The Flying Fleet scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning of game one and five runs in the bottom of the first inning in game two to propel themselves to victory. Freshman Tyler Ault finished the day 4-for-8 at the plate for SIU with a pair of runs scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Game One
- Sophomore southpaw Michael Rupp took to the mound for the Tigers and was opposed by Zack Bowers for Erskine.
- Ault would lead-off the contest for SIU with a single up the middle and later move over to third on a fly-out by senior Matthew Flores.
- Junior Zach Mullinax plated Ault with his two-out RBI single to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
- The Flying Fleet responded with a pair of run in the bottom-half of the inning with Chaz Davey and Trevor Wood hitting back-to-back home runs.
- Erskine added to its lead in the bottom of the second inning against sophomore reliever Albert Cartenuto.
- Bowers would do his best to keep the Tigers bats quiet, tossing 5.1 innings of three-run (two earned) baseball.
- The Tigers cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fifth inning as junior Zach Mullinax scored on an error in right field by the Bulldogs.
- The fourth and fifth innings would see the Flying Fleet add a total of seven runs to their total.
- Senior Donato Gallano plated fellow senior Trent Dalton in the top of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 7-2. Dalton reached base for the Tigers with a one-out single to center field.
- SIU tallied their third run of the contest in the top of the sixth inning as senior Joshua VanMeter reached base on an error by the shortstop, scoring Mullinax.
- Bowers (1-1) earned the win for Erskine, allowing six hits and striking out four batters. Zach Carter, Josh Covey, and Noah Hinzman combined to toss the final 1.2 innings for the Flying Fleet with Covey allowing a pair of hits.
- Rupp (0-1) took the loss for the Tigers and allowed two runs on two hits in one inning of work. Cartenuto tossed two innings for SIU and allowed one unearned run on four hits.
- Game Two
- Senior left-hander Abel Hernandez got the start for the Tigers in the second game and would toss a complete game for SIU.
- It would be a rough bottom of the first inning for the Tigers and Hernandez as Erskine scored five in the frame, including a lead-off home run from Davey.
- Davey continued to swing a hot bat in the bottom of the second inning, belting another home run for the Flying Fleet.
- Both teams traded zeros on the scoreboard until Erskine delivered their third home run of the contest to take a 7-0 lead.
- The Tigers offense would finally break through against Carpin and the Flying Fleet in the top of the sixth inning.
- Dalton would score the Tigers first run of the game on an error by the Flying Fleet at third base. Ault would then score from third after a ground-out from Mullinax to make it 7-2.
- Erskine rounded-out the scoring with a grand-slam from Faunce, his second home run of the game, in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 11-2.
- SIU looked to add some more runs in the top of the seventh inning, loading the bases with no-outs in the frame. Back-to-back strikeouts and a line-out to the second baseman would end the rally for the Tigers.
- Carpin (2-0) earned the win for Erskine, allowing two unearned runs in six innings of work. He scattered four hits and recorded eight strikeout on 94 pitches for the Flying Feet.
- Hernandez (0-2) took the loss for the Tigers, allowing 11 runs on 12 hits. He fanned five batters and walked one on 105 pitches.
