Career-high 29 points from Flood-Francis not enough as Tigers fall to Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, OH - Despite scoring a career-high 29 points and recording a game-high five steals, sophomore Jiahna Flood-Francis couldn't push the Salem International University women's basketball team past Cedarville University on Thursday night (Feb. 23). The Yellow Jackets, led by Regina Hochstetler's 24 points recorded a 108-62 victory against the Tigers in NCAA Division II basketball action.

Flood-Francis finished the game 10-of-18 from the field and 6-of-7 at the free-throw line for SIU. Senior Franchessca Gill tallied a career-high 13 points for the Tigers, hitting a trio of three's while adding four rebounds. Sophomore Imari Bowers added 11 points and three assists for SIU, while junior Christy Gonzalez tallied a team-high seven boards.

Cedarville would open the game by shooting 53.3 percent in the first quarter, going 8-for-15 from the field. The Tigers tried to keep pace with the Yellow Jackets by shooting from downtown but to no avail. SIU went 2-of-10 from three-point range and 5-of-16 from the field.

Flood-Francis rallied the troops for SIU in the second quarter in a fast-paced 10-minutes. Both teams would go cold from downtown, with SIU shooting 2-for-10 and Cedarville 1-for-7 in the quarter. The Yellow Jackets edged SIU 26-21 in the quarter while taking a 46-33 lead into the break.

The Yellow Jackets couldn't do much wrong to start the third quarter, going 8-for-10 to open the second-half. SIU would go 0-for-7 from downtown in the quarter and just 2-of-13 from the field. Cedarville out-scored SIU 32-7 in the quarter to give itself a 38-point lead.

SIU did its best to match the Yellow Jackets shot-for-shot in the fourth quarter, but it would be a little too late as the gap between the two teams wouldn't shrink down the stretch for the Tigers.

Hochstetler finished 10-of-15 from the field for Cedarville, hitting four three's and recording six assists. Emily Williams recorded a double-double for the Yellow Jackets with a 16-point and 11 rebound performance. Baylee Bennett scored 18 points and added a game-high eight assists for Cedarville, while Breanne Watterworth added 14 points.

SIU finished the game 23-of-61 from the field, 8-of-32 from downtown, and 8-of-14 at the free-throw line, while Cedarville went 44-of-72 from the field, 12-of-33 from downtown, and 8-of-14 at the free-throw line. The Yellow Jackets out-rebounded the Tigers 45-26 and recorded 52 points in the paint. Cedarville also tallied 22 points off of SIU turnovers and added 16 second-chance points.
