Women's basketball loses to Davis & Elkins on the road

Tigers surrender 22 3-pointers.

ELKINS, W. Va. (Jan. 3, 2018) – The Salem University Tigers women's basketball team surrendered a season-high in points, losing 108-60 to the Davis & Elkins College Senators.

The Senators drained 3-pointers over the top of the Tigers' defense all night, shooting a blistering 22-for-44 (50 percent) from long range, setting a school record for 3-pointers made in a single game.

Davis & Elkins was led by Sydney Snyder, who scored 30 points off the bench for the Senators, connecting on 10-for-19 from deep. The Senators spaced the floor and moved the ball expertly, assisting on 27 of their 39 made baskets. Aliyah Dukes scored 21 points and Sydney Turners had 20 points with the pair combining to shoot 10-for-21 from the 3-point line.

Jillian Romero led the Tigers with 26 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals, shooting 9-for-20 from the field, including 7-for-16 from long range. Keishla Gilmore had 14 points and five assists as the only other Salem player in double figures.

The Senators got out to an early 23-13 lead after the first quarter and scored 30, 25, and 30 in the next three quarters. The Tigers shot just 31.9 percent form the field, and 27.6 percent from deep.

With the loss, the Tigers fall to 4-11 on the season and 2-6 on the road. Salem University will resume play on the road against Alderson Broaddus University on Jan. 8 at 5:15 p.m.
