WILBERFORCE, Ohio– The Salem University volleyball team collected a 3-1 victory over Central State, Thursday night.
The win was in just four sets (25-18, 21-25, 25-16, 25-12) and improves the Tigers to 8-29 on the year.
Salem led in every major statistical category including kills (47-33), aces (8-6), blocks (11-5), assists (45-29) and digs (59-56).
The Tigers posted a .186 hitting percentage, while Central State posted a .008 hitting percentage.
Junior
Liane Moser led the Tiger offense as she notched a match-high 18 kills and a match-high five blocks. Moser also recorded a hitting percentage of .571.
Senior
Kathryne Mathis garnered 12 kills and a match-high 14 digs, while classmate
Cassidy Pluta produced 19 assists and 10 digs.
Midway through the first set, sophomore
Alaina Weltz set Mathis up for a kill to take a 21-8 lead over Central State.
In the third set, the Tigers scored the last five points of the set to win 25-16 and take a 2-1 match lead.
Salem dominated the fourth and final set as it went on a 10-0 run capped off by a Weltz service ace to take a commanding 24-10 lead.
The Tigers are back in action Saturday as they travel to Bluefield State for a match set at 1:00 p.m.
