Tigers Dominate Carlow 110-81

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Salem University men's basketball team had six different players in double figures in a dominating 110-81 win over Carlow, Sunday afternoon. 
 
With the win, the Tigers improve to 2-0. This marks the first 2-0 start for the Tigers since the 2013-14 season. 
 
Salem shot 60 percent from the field (42-70), while Carlow shot just 33 percent for the game (30-91). 
 
The Tigers connected on 14 three-pointers while they shot 43.8 percent from behind the arc. 
 
The Tigers were led by sophomore Shawn Christian and senior Malik Toppin who each dropped a game-high 19 points. Christian also dished out four assists and grabbed seven rebounds, while Toppin notched eight rebounds and five blocked shots. 
 
Senior Chris Shields recorded 16 points and grabbed eight boards off the glass, while junior Malique Ross garnered 13 points, freshman Fonz Hale scored 15 points and junior Jesse Pistoache produced 11 points. 
 
At 14:11 in the first half, the Tigers jumped out to an 11-point lead as Christian knocked down a three from an assist by Ross to take a 21-10 lead over Carlow. 
 
With 27 seconds left in the first half, Salem opened its largest lead of the half as Shields hit an and-one layup and made his free throw to take a 54-36 lead into intermission. 
 
The Tigers held their largest lead of the game with 5:47 left in the game as Ross hit two free throws for a 34-point advantage over Carlow, 91-57. 
 
The Tigers held the advantage in the paint as they scored 52 points to Carlow's 36. 
 
Carlow was led by Tony Acrie and Rece Henneman who had 16 and 12 points respectively. 
 
The Tigers are back in action Wednesday as they travel to face No. 2 West Liberty at 7:30 p.m.
