WEST CHESTER, Pa. –The Salem University women's basketball team suffered an 88-78 loss to West Chester, Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Tigers drop to 0-4 on the year, while West Chester improves to 2-2.
The Tigers were led by junior
Alicia Smith as she dropped a team-high 22 points, grabbed five rebounds, swiped five steals and dished out five assists.
The only other Tiger in double figures was freshman
Nerea Arambarri Fernandez with 12 points, while freshman
Tamia Tart and sophomore
Taelor Carter each notched 9 points and six rebounds.
West Chester shot 48.7 percent from the field (37-76), while the Tigers shot 38 percent (30-79).
The Tigers were only able to connect on four three-pointers, shooting just 16.7 percent (4-24).
Smith knocked down a fast break jumper for the first points of the game at 9:14 in the first quarter.
The Tigers led 6-5 after a jumper in the paint from junior
Endia Jones at 7:59 in the first quarter, unfortunately, West Chester went on a seven-point run at 7:46 and led the rest of the way.
The Tigers outscored West Chester in the second quarter 17-4 and the fourth quarter 20-17.
West Chester posted 22 second-chance points, while the Tigers only scored six, but the Salem bench outscored the West Chester bench 40-27.
West Chester held its largest lead at 4:54 in the third quarter as it led by 17, 61-44.
Tigers are back in action Wednesday as they host Malone with a 3:00 p.m. tip.
