PHILIPPI, W.Va. –The Salem University men's basketball team dropped a road contest against Alderson Broaddus 88-63, Tuesday evening.
The loss drops the Tigers to 6-3, while Alderson Broaddus improves to 3-4.
The Tigers were outshot, as the Battlers held a 47.8 shooting percentage (32-67), while Salem shot 35.1 percent (20-57).
Salem forced Alderson Broaddus to 13 turnovers, while the Battlers only forced Salem to 11.
The Tigers did not capitalize from the charity stripe as they had 25 free throw attempts with 12 makes for 65.2 percent.
Senior
Kanayo Obi-Rapu led the way for the Tigers with 14 points, four rebounds and two assists, while the only other Tigers in double figures were senior
Christopher Shields and sophomore
Shawn Christian who each had 10 points.
Junior
Malique Ross ended the game with seven points and team-high six rebounds.
Ross opened the scoring in the contest as he hit a layup at 19:13 in the first half to put the Tigers on the board first for a 2-0 lead.
This is the only point in the contest that Salem held a lead.
At 8:37 in the first half, Alderson Broaddus expanded its lead to eight (24-16), but the Tigers answered and cut the lead to two (27-25) at 5:46 as Obi-Rapu drained a shot behind the arc. This was as close as the Tigers got for the remainder of the contest.
Alderson Broaddus held a 40-27 advantage over the Tigers at intermission.
In the second half, the Battlers expanded their lead to 31 with 3:40 remaining in the game.
Alderson Broaddus was led by David Shriver who notched a game-high 23 points, while Malik Bocook recorded 16 points and a game-high 20 rebounds.
The Tigers look to bounce back this weekend as they are set to host the Joe Manchin Classic with a matchup against Kentucky State on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
