Box Score BLUEFIELD, W. Va. (Feb. 24, 2018) – The Salem University Tigers women's basketball team closed its season out with a 77-62 win over the Bluefield State College Big Blue.
Four players scored in double figures, led by
Aaliyah Dotson's 23 points. Dotson was active, putting together a strong all-around game, hitting 9-for-18 from the field and 4-for-7 from the free-throw line while contributing nine rebounds, five assists, two blocks and a steal.
Isia Mance was strong in the paint, posting a 19-point, 13-rebound double-double on 9-for-18 shooting with four assists. Mance also helped to anchor the defense inside with two blocks and two steals while helping to limit Bluefield State to 37.3 percent shooting.
The Tigers forced 20 turnovers, including 13 steals, jumping passing lanes and getting out into transition, scoring 14 points off turnovers.
Salem starters
Keishla Gilmore and
Jillian Romero led the Tigers with four steals each, with Gilmore using her quickness and energy and Romero utilizing her length. Romero finished with 14 points and Gilmore had 11, hitting 3-for-8 from the 3-point line.
Lauryn Hatfield led three Bluefield State players in double figures, scoring 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting and grabbing eight rebounds. Lyndsay Hatfield had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Lyric Hampton finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
With the win, the Tigers finish 8-18 on the season, including 3-8 on the road, improving on last year's 3-23 season.
