MADISONVILLE, Tenn. (March 17, 2018) – The Salem University Tigers baseball team bookended its runs with a pair of home runs to defeat Hiwassee College 6-5 on the road.
Trailing 5-4 in the top of the eighth inning with two outs, Jones hit a two-run blast, scoring
Tyler D'Alessandro to give Salem its final one-run lead. Jones' first home run of the season gave the Tigers their sixth consecutive win after Salem's defense shut down six of Hiwassee's final seven batters to preserver the victory.

Addison Rouse said. "Really good win. We fought a ton of adversity and stepped up in some really big spots to close out a hard-fought ball game."
Josh LaPrest put the Tigers on the board first, leading off the second inning with a solo home run, his seventh of the season. Later in the inning,
Remmington Boyce hit a two-RBI shot to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. Hiwassee responded with a run on two hits in the bottom of the inning.
Hiwassee scored two runs with two outs in the third inning, getting back-to-back RBI singles from Watson and Sutton to tie the game at 3-3.
Salem retook a brief lead on an RBI-single from Boyce before Hiwassee responded with a two-RBI single from Wolfe in the sixth inning for a 5-4 lead.
D'Alessandro singled in the top of the eighth to set the stage for Jones' heroics.
Brendan Case started on the mound for the Tigers, striking out six.
Nick Taylor closed out the game. Salem put together 13 hits, leaving eight baserunners stranded.
Jones was a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. D'Alessandro was 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Boyce had two hits in three at-bats with three RBIs.
With the win, Salem improves to 11-5-1 on the season, including 7-5-1 on the road. The Tigers will resume their series against Hiwassee on Sunday with a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
