Box Score 2 CLARKSBURG, W. Va. (April 10, 2018) – The Salem University Tigers baseball team ran into a buzz saw, dropping both games in its double header to the California University of Pennsylvania Vulcans.
The Vulcans were an offensive juggernaut, exacting the maximum punishment for every pitching mistake the Tigers made, combining for 40 hits and 40 runs in both games.
Game 1 – California (Pa.) 13, Salem 4
The Vulcans started early, putting together a six-run first inning off five hits, punctuated by home runs from Fairman and Chisam. Thompson hit a two-RBI single in the second inning, scoring Krause and Brooks.
Salem got on the scoreboard in the second inning off a Mateo Gill RBI-double to center field.
Dylan Frawley followed that up with a fielder's choice RBI.
California (Pa.) finished the game with 13 runs on 17 hits while taking advantage of three Salem errors.
Josh LaPrest was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Salem.

Thirus Jones, Gil, and Frawley each had a RBI for the Tigers.
Brendan Case got the start for Salem, giving up six runs off five hits in one inning.
Kyle Sears pitched five innings, giving up six runs on 10 hits, while
Michael Rupp pitched an inning, giving up an unearned run off two hits.
Game 2 – California (Pa.) 27, Salem 13
A few days after scoring a school NCAA record high, Salem found itself on the wrong side of an offensive blitzkrieg, falling 27-13.
The Vulcans' Maudie was perfect at the plate, hitting 5-for-5 with four home runs, including two grand slams and two two-run home runs.
Starting pitcher
Cole Standifer struggled early, walking batters (five) and falling behind in counts, giving up two home runs as part of a seven-run first inning.
Noah Suarez put Salem on the board with a leadoff solo home run, pushing back against a tidal wave.
The floodwaters broke through in the second inning, with the Vulcans batting through the lineup three times, scoring 15 runs. California (Pa.) put together three two-run home runs to start the inning and Maudie's first grand slam home run.
Maudie hit another two-run home run in the third inning.
James Cramer hit a two-RBI single in the third inning before Salem gave up another two-run home run in the fourth.
The Tigers put together a 10-run fourth inning, highlighted by a grand slam home run from
Andrew Beam.
For the game, the Vulcans finished with 23 hits and eight home runs with nine walks.
Beam finished 2-for-2 with four RBIs, a walk, and was hit by a pitch for Salem. Cramer, LaPrest, and
Remmington Boyce each had two RBIs.
???????Standifer started for Salem, getting to the second inning, giving up 10 runs on five hits with five walks. Albert Cartenudo finished the inning, giving up three earned runs on two hits.
Carlos Pena gave up seven runs on five hits.
Michael Rupp gave up seven runs in 2.1 innings.
Jordan Wagner pitched three shutout innings, striking out four and giving up one hit.
With the losses, Salem falls to 15-11-1 and 2-2 at home. The Tigers will play West Virginia State University in Institute, West Virginia tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
