Josh LaPrest helped put an exclamation point on one of the best seasons in the Salem University Tigers baseball program's history.
LaPrest hit a grand slam in the bottom of the third, setting the best single-season mark in Salem's NCAA Division II history with his 10
th home run. He finished the game hitting 4-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored; pushing his team-leading RBI total to 43, finishing the season with a .664 slugging percentage.
His third-inning blast was part of a seven-run inning taking advantaged of four errors as the Tigers defeated the Ohio Valley University Fighting Scots 11-5.
Afterwards, players doused Head Coach
Addison Rouse with ice water in celebration of the Tigers victory, which pushed Salem to 19-16-1 for the season; giving the Tigers the highest winning percentage (.542) in the program's NCAA DII history.
Logan Persse got the start for Salem, throwing 6.1 innings and giving up seven hits and three earned runs with five strikeouts. With the win, Persse finishes the season 6-1 in 12 appearances.
Salem finished with 11 hits, getting three from
Jimmy Cramer in five at-bats with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Beam was 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run, and RBI.
Brendan Case pitched 2.2 innings in relief, giving up two runs with one earned and four strikeouts. Ohio Valley University falls to 18-28 on the season.
