GRAYSON, Ky. –The Salem University volleyball team fell to Asbury 3-0 and defeated Kentucky Christian 3-2, Saturday afternoon.
With the split Salem improves to 3-15.
Game One
The Tigers fell in three-straight sets to Asbury (14-25, 22-25, 14-25).
Asbury led Salem in kills (30-19), assists (35-15) and digs (86-84), while Salem led in aces (5-4) and blocks (5-4).
The Tigers were led by junior
Liane Moser who had seven kills, while freshman
Jalavia Johnson added four kills and two aces.
Senior
Cassidy Pluta notched 15 assists, 20 digs and generated four kills, while senior
Kathryne Mathis recorded 22 digs.
Sophomore
Nina Isaac had a match-high three blocks.
Game Two
In the second match of the day, Salem edged Kentucky Christian 3-2 (12-25, 25-18, 19-25, 25-22, 15-13), in a thrilling five-set match.
Salem posted 11 blocks, while KCU generated six. KCU led Salem in digs (137-120), assists (42-28), aces (12-6) and kills (42-33).
The Tigers were led by Moser who recorded 25 digs, three aces and 11 kills, while Mathis posted 29 digs and eight kills.
Senior
Adela Parras notched 25 digs and one ace, while Pluta added 28 assists and 19 digs.
The Tigers are back in action Tuesday as they travel to Buckhannon, W.Va. for a tri-match against Alderson Broaddus at 4:00 p.m. and West Virginia Wesleyan at 6:00 p.m.
