A 15-3 run in the second quarter broke open a close game as Salem University fell to Cedarville University 81-59 in NCAA Division II women's basketball Saturday at Cedarville, Ohio.
Nia Bishop reached double figures for the fifth time in as many games this season, leading all scorers with 18 points.

Salem (1-4) rallied from a 10-point first quarter deficit as
Tamia Tart and
Precious Price connected on jumpers in the opening 61 seconds of the second stanza to pull the Tigers within 20-16. But Salem was limited to three free throws over the next seven-plus minutes as Cedarville (4-1) went on to build a 40-24 halftime lead.

The margin reached the 20-point mark midway through the third period and grew to as many as 30 points at 62-32. Salem got as close as 74-55 late in the fourth quarter on a three-pointer by Bishop.

Price finished with nine points for the Tigers, while
Reeva Jackson pulled down eight rebounds to go with two blocked shots.

Stevie Johnting led a balanced Cedarville attack with 11 points for the Jackets.

Salem returns home Wednesday as the Tigers play host to nationally 16th-ranked Indiana University of Pennsylvania as part of a Thanksgiving Eve doubleheader with Tiger men's basketball. Tip-off is 3 p.m. at T. Edward Davis Gymnasium, followed by Salem men's basketball against Ohio Valley University at 5 p.m.
