Salem University fell to Concord University 25-13, 25-20, 25-16 in NCAA Division II volleyball Wednesday at T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
Jalavia Johnson led the Tigers with eight kills and nine digs.

Concord won the opening set and built a six-point lead in the second set before Salem mounted a comeback. The Tigers went on a 5-2 run as
Lenka Jakovljevic served an ace and Johnson accounted for the other four points with two kills and two aces to pull within 18-15.

The margin grew back to five points before kills by
Liane Moser and
Yesenia Munoz brought the Tigers back within 22-19. Concord scored the next two points and after Salem saved a set point, the Mountain Lions closed out the set and take a two-set lead.

Salem trailed by as many as nine points in the third set before putting together another rally. An ace by
Kyana Cardenas and back-to-back kills by Johnson capped a 7-1 run to draw the Tigers within 15-12. After the margin grew to seven,
Makhia Hinton's kill capped a three-point run to keep Salem within striking range at 19-15. But Concord scored six of the final seven points to finish the match.

Moser finished with six kills, while Munoz added five kills. Cardenas (14 assists) and
Alaina Weltz (nine assists) combined for 23 assists. Jakovljevic became the ninth Tiger this season to reach double figure in digs with a career-high 10 digs.

Salem concludes its 2019 season Friday as the Tigers play host to Bluefield State College. Salem defeated Bluefield State in three sets in the two teams' first meeting in October. Special match time is 5 p.m.
