SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Salem University women's basketball team fell to a tough Slippery Rock team 98-90, in its final game of the season, Wednesday.
With the loss, Salem concludes its season record to 8-19.
For the game, Salem shot 35.2 percent (31-88), while Slippery Rock netted 47.3 percent (35-74) from the field.
Salem's bench outscored Slippery Rock's 51-33, while the Tigers recorded 10 blocks to Slippery Rock's two.
Salem also outrebounded Slippery Rock 55-47.
Freshman
Daniela Quesada-Villalobos led the way offensively for the Tigers as she notched 19 points and grabbed five rebounds, while freshman
Nerea Arambarri Fernandez added 12 points and snagged six rebounds.
Junior
Endia Jones tallied a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while classmate
Precious Price connected for 10 points and five assists.
The Tigers notched the first two points of the game, as junior
Reeva Jackson connected on back-to-back free throws for a 2-0 lead at 9:44 in the first quarter.
Slippery Rock took the lead at 8:16 in the first quarter and did not look back, as they went on a 32-4 run leading the Tigers 32-6 with 46 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
The Tigers chipped at the Slippery Rock lead in the second quarter as they trailed by just 14 heading into halftime, 53-39.
At the end of the third quarter, Slippery Rock led Salem 84-61.
In the fourth quarter, the Tigers came alive as they outscored Slippery Rock 29-14. After a three from Quesada-Villalobos with 4:19 remaining in the game, Salem trailed 91-82.
