CLERMONT, Fla. – The Salem University softball team fell twice on the first day of the Spring Games to Bentley 7-2 and Lewis 4-3, Wednesday morning.
With the losses, the Tigers drop to 1-7 on the season.
In game one, Salem's offense had a slow start generating only four hits in six innings. It wasn't until the bottom of the seventh inning that the Tigers got on the board.
Junior
Christine Bombardiere doubled to center field to lead off the inning. Bombardiere advanced to third on an infield grounder then scored on a double to right field by junior
Sydney McPherson to cut the lead 7-1.
McPherson came around to score on single to right field from sophomore
Brianna Bennett, 7-2.
The Tigers started to fight back in the last inning, but came up short taking the loss to Bentley.
In game two, the Tigers came out hot, scoring two runs in the first inning after a single to right field from junior
Rosey Romick and a two-run home run to left field by Bombardiere to drive in Romick for a 2-0 lead.
The top of the fifth inning was Salem's only other scoring inning with a few singles from sophomore
Casey Moritz and freshman
Kimberly Reckling.
Junior
Breanna Jimenez hit an RBI sacrifice grounder to short stop to allow Moritz to cross the plate to increase the lead 3-1.
Lewis came back in the bottom of the seventh to score three runs and earn a walk-off win 4-3 over the Tigers.
Bombardiere led the Tigers going 4-6 with a home run, a double, two runs-batted-in and two runs.
Salem is back in action tomorrow as they take on the University of Bridgeport at 1:45 p.m. and Kutztown at 6:15 p.m.
