NUTTER FORT, W.Va. – The Salem University baseball team split with Glenville State as the Tigers took game one 10-5 and fell in the nightcap 3-2, Wednesday evening.
With the split, the Tigers sit at 18-14.
In game one, senior
Harrison Hollis was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a home run, while senior
Jimmy Cramer was 1-for-3 with three RBI and a home run.
Junior ace
Sam Chapman remains undefeated (6-0) as he struck out five batters and allowed five runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings pitched.
The Tigers' bats were rolling in the bottom of the first as Cramer sent a two-run shot out of the park for a 2-0 lead. In the next at-bat, junior
Dalton Robison broke the Tigers' single-season home run record with his 11th home run of the year as he sent a bomb to left field and a 3-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the second, Hollis hit an infield single to score senior
Isaiah Arroyo for a 4-0 lead. In the next at-bat, junior
Tyler Ault was walked with the bases loaded as junior
Parker Lenivy crossed home for a 5-0 lead.
The Tigers added two more runs in the bottom of the second as Cramer hit an RBI fielder's choice to score junior
Noah Suarez, while Hollis scored on an error for a 7-0 lead.
In the Bottom of the sixth, Salem added three runs to extend the lead to 10-5 as senior
Thirus Jones singled to right field to score sophomore
Remmington Boyce, while Hollis homered to left field for a two-run shot.
In game two, the Tigers only managed two hits as Cramer and Robison each tallied one.
Sophomore
Carlos Pena started on the mound for the Tigers as he notched four strikeouts with five hits and two runs allowed in six innings.
The Tigers scored first as Hollis avoided the tag at home with Cramer forcing himself into a rundown as Hollis advanced home for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. In the same at-bat, Robison hit a double to left field as Cramer touched home plate for a 2-0 advantage over the Pioneers.
Glenville added a run in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 2-1. The Pioneers added a run in the sixth to tie the game at 2-2, while Glenville took the lead in the top of the seventh off a double to right center for the 3-2 advantage.
Salem had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh with two outs but was unable to convert and fell just short.
The Tigers are back at home this Saturday as they host Central Pennsylvania for a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
