WHEELING, W.Va. –The Salem University baseball team dropped a road contest to Wheeling Jesuit 6-3, Wednesday.
Following the loss, Salem drops to 23-20, while Wheeling Jesuit improves to 9-29.
Senior
Harrison Hollis was 1-for-3 with one run scored, while junior
Walker Dodero was 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Sophomore
Carlos Pena is tabbed with the loss (1-3), as he allowed three earned runs and seven hits as he fanned seven batters in five innings pitched.
Salem tallied the first run of the game as Hollis scored off a wild pitch in the top of the third inning for a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Dodero doubled to left as junior
Dalton Robison crossed home for a 2-0 advantage.
Wheeling added one run in the bottom of the third and three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead over Salem.
Sophomore
Austin Whetzel singled through the left side in the top of the sixth to score sophomore
Tyler D'Alessandro to cut the lead to 4-3.
Wheeling added two runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the 6-3 win.
Salem is back in action Saturday as it hosts Virginia State for Senior Day at 1:00 p.m.
