NUTTER FORT, W.Va. –The Salem University baseball team dominated Fairmont 23-8, Wednesday night.
With the win, the Tigers improve to 22-15, four wins away from tying the most wins in Division II school history.
In the past two home games, the Tigers have had over 40 runs and 40 hits combined.
Junior ace
Sam Chapman remains perfect on the year as he moves to 7-0 as tonight, he sat down five batters and allowed seven hits and six earned runs in six innings pitched.
Senior
Harrison Hollis was 5-for-6 with two home runs, two doubles and five RBI, while junior
Walker Dodero was 3-for-5 with three doubles and four RBI.
Fairmont threw a total of 12 pitchers in the contest.
The Tigers started hot, as Hollis launched a leadoff home run to left field for a 1-0 advantage over the Falcons. Later in the inning, senior
Jimmy Cramer laid down a perfect bunt between second and first as junior
Tyler Ault crossed the plate for a 2-0 lead.
Cramer stole third base, and, on the throw, the third baseman misplayed the ball as Cramer scored to push the lead to 3-0.
Fairmont added two runs in the top of the second to cut the lead to 3-2.
In the bottom of the second, Hollis doubled to left center as senior
Isaiah Arroyo stepped on home for a 4-2 lead. In the same inning, junior
Walker Dodero doubled to left center to score Hollis and Ault for a 6-2 advantage.
The Falcons added another two runs in the top of the third off a two-run homer.
In the bottom of the third, Hollis went yard for the second time in the game as he hit a three-run blast over the left field wall for a 9-4 Tiger lead.
Two batters later, junior
Dalton Robison tripled off the left field wall to score Ault for a 10-4 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Arroyo singled through the right side as Cramer crossed home for an 11-5 lead. In the next at-bat, junior
Noah Suarez singled to left center to bring home sophomore
Austin Whetzel and classmate
Tyler D'Alessandro for a comfortable 13-5 lead.
The Tigers added seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to further their lead to 20-5 over Fairmont.
D'Alessandro hit a leadoff solo shot to right field in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead to 21-6.
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow as they host Glenville State at Frank Loria at 6:00 p.m.
