MILLERSVILLE, PA. – Chelsea Cordice recorded 18 saves in her first match for Salem University, but a scoring burst late in the first half broke open a close match as the Tigers fell to Millersville University 8-0 in NCAA Division II women's soccer Thursday at Millersville, Pa. The contest was the season opener for both teams.
 
Salem (0-1) kept Millersville scoreless until the 21st minute when a cross from the left led to an open led to an open shot directly in front of the right side of the goal. The Tigers remained within a goal through the 30th minute until the Marauders' Talia Grynkewicz erupted for a pair of goals 70 seconds apart, then added two more goals in a span of less than two minutes starting in the 36th minute. Salem trailed 5-0 at halftime.
 
The Tigers kept Millersville (1-0) out of the goal for nearly 35 minutes into the second half before the Marauders scored two quick goals. A goal in the 86th minute capped the scoring.
 
Salem plays its home opener Sunday as the Tigers play host to Concord University. Match time is 1 p.m. at Catalano Stadium.
